State police have charged an Indiana man following an incident in which an alleged threat was made towards the Homer-Center School District.
Troopers say 18-year-old Spencer Thomas Baker faces a felony charge of terroristic threats following an incident Thursday morning. Around 8:45 a.m., several students informed Junior/Senior High Principal Jody Rainey that Baker allegedly sent a Snapchat video to an unnamed student, showing him holding a shotgun and indicating that he was arriving to the school. Troopers believe, however, that he did not actually travel to the school.
Members of the Troop A barracks were notified of the video shortly after the report was made and they later found Baker at his home and he was taken into custody without incident. During this time, Homer-Center security officers increased protection efforts outside of school buildings.
Baker was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Susanne Steffee and later placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 11:15 a.m.
In a news release, troopers thanked the students for their quick work in reporting the incident, and they encourage both students and parents to continue reporting any threatening or suspicious activity.
