Yesterday, State Police announced the results of recent DUI enforcement efforts that happened over one day during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Now, more statistics have been released concerning the enforcement efforts over the whole weekend.
State Police say that troopers working the roads in Indiana County over the weekend investigated eight vehicle crashes, however there were no fatalities connected with any of the crashes. Two people were injured in those crashes. None of the crashes investigated were alcohol-related.
State Police also made 12 DUI arrests over the four-day period, issued 871 traffic citations and 208 written warnings, and made five “self-initiated criminal arrests”. Breaking down stats further, State Police said that no citations were handed out for child safety seat violations, but 25 citations were handed out for seatbelt violations, and 39 seatbelt-related warnings were handed out as well. Troopers also wrote 518 speeding tickets and issued 32 “Steer Clear” law citations.
Troopers had adopted a “zero tolerance” policy for the weekend as they patrolled over the weekend, devoting as much time as possible to keeping the roads safe for travelers.
