Today is the day for the Indiana County Public Participation Panel Meeting, to review and take comments on the Draft 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program prepared by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission.
The “TIP” plan covers ten counties, each of which holds its own Public Participation Panel and offers the public the chance to comment on proposed transportation projects. The thirty-day public comment period began May 14th and lasts until June 13th at 4 PM.
There are 32 projects listed for Indiana County on the 2019-2022 plan, with a total price tag of $74,487,473. Which of those 32 projects actually get done will be determined by a number of factors, including available funding and a priority list which would take into account data gathered at meetings such as the one this afternoon. The largest project would be a $14.3 million revamping of Oakland Avenue in White Township, including intersection improvements, the addition of new lanes, and new signals. It would begin in 2020.
The public meeting today is at 3 o’clock at the Indiana County Careerlink office at 300 Indian Springs Road. It will be an open house style meeting, with maps, representatives from the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission, PennDOT, transit operators, and The county Office of Planning and Development.
