Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted April unemployment rate was unchanged from the March rate, at 5.3 percent. The state Labor & Industry Department says that’s nine-tenths of a percentage point below the April rate from a year ago, and is tied with three neighboring counties – Armstrong, Cambria, and Clearfield – at 51st among the state’s 67 counties.
The state rate fell a tenth of a percentage point, to 4.7 percent. Westmoreland County had the best unemployment rate, at 4.6 percent. Jefferson is at 5 percent. The lowest rate in the state is 3.3 percent, in Adams and Chester counties. Forest County had the highest unemployment in April, at 7.2 percent.
