On Tuesday night, the Center Township Supervisors heard from two people behind a proposed halfway house that would go in along Yankeetown Avenue.
The “Cathy’s Hope” halfway house would be an outreach program from Monringstar Ministries out of Cherry Tree and would be a 24-hour care facility for women only and women would be admitted after their 28-day detox period. The facility would house up to 12 clients and David Ritenour with Cathy’s Hope said that they have looked at many facilities, but 90 Yankeetown Avenue was a perfect setup for the facility.
Jill Gaines, also with the halfway house, said that one of the reasons why they wanted to set up a facility in Homer City is because there is no women’s halfway house in Indiana County.
In a statement, the supervisors said they were against the halfway house as proposed. Supervisor Jim Gatskie said the main problem was not the purpose of the facility, but the choice of location.
He also requested that a town meeting be held before any further progress is made. Organizers with Cathy’s Hope want to open the facility in March of 2024.
