The Indiana Area School Board gave the district’s administration permission to create a summer education enrichment program for the district during Monday night’s meeting.
District superintendent Michael Vuckovich said that the program will be designed to provide enrichment and accelerated learning to kids who have been negatively impacted by the Covid-19-related closures.
The cost of the program is not to exceed $250,000, and will be paid out of federal funds, not the district’s general fund.
In other business, the board approved changes to the graduation requirements. The new requirements allow two personal finance courses to count toward the math requirement for graduation; a reduction in the health & physical education graduation requirement from 2 to 1.5 credits, with grade 12 health & phys. ed. becoming an elective; and science of engineering and computer aided drafting & design courses as alternative technical science courses for the science graduation requirement.
The board also approved the district calendar for the next school year. The first student day will be August 30th and the final student day will be June 2nd.
