UPDATE: According to Clymer Fire Chief Jeff Gromley, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The property on fire was an apartment above an antique store at 245 Franklin Street. The antique store took on water damage only, and the contents were saved, but the extent of the damage to the apartment, where the fire started, has not been calculated.
Chief Gromley said that the reason why several fire companies were being called out was because of manpower concerns. While Clymer had a good showing of firefighters, the hot weather we experienced on Friday had an adverse effect on the firefighters and they were not able to recover as quickly as they usually do after being in the fire. More manpower was needed to make sure that they were not sending tired firefighters in.
There were no reported injuries. The State Police Fire Marshals were called in to investigate a cause and the amount of damage. More information is expected next week.
