In his long-awaited MLB deubt, Joe Musgrove paid immediate dividends and helped the Pirates win 8-1 on Friday.
Musgrove went 7 innings, allowing no runs on five hits, striking out five and no walks on the day to pick up the win. Musgrove was also 1-2 at the plate.
Musgrove was backed up by a surging Pirates offense that came alive in the later parts of the game. It was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Josh Harrison hit an RBI Double to score Musgrove. Harrison would score on a sac-fly by Josh Bell. Corey Dickerson would follow that up with an RBI triple that scored Fransisco Cervelli.
Cervelli would add on to the score in the bottom of the 7th with a bases-clearing triple that scored Austin Meadows, Jordy Mercer and Gregory Polanco.
The Cardinals would score their only run of the game in the top of the 8th as Tommy Pham hit a home run to right field. But in the bottom of the 8th, the Pirates offense continued to rack up runs with an RBI Triple by Jordy Mercer that scored Meadows. Harrison would pick up his second RBI of the day with a line drive to center field that scored Mercer.
