Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi is ready to go for his season opener on Saturday afternoon against Wofford, and he says his players are anxious to get started too. He says the Panthers are ready to kick off the season and he is curious about some players he expects will show even more in a game situation than they did in training camp.
Narduzzi says the Panthers, with transfer Phil Jurkovec at quarterback, will play an up-tempo game.
Narduzzi says Ohio State transfer guard Ryan Jacoby is out for the season with an undisclosed injury and will be replaced by former tight end Jason Collier, who has bulked up from 240 pounds as a freshman to 330 pounds now.
The coach named Penn State transfer Christian Veilleux as his backup quarterback, with Nate Yarnell the third QB.
Pitt/Wofford kicks off Saturday at 3:30 on WCCS.
