The Challenger Learning Center for Indiana has received over $1 million in federal funds to help with some parts of the project.
The $1.495 million in grant money will come from NASA and will be used for interior design, fabrication and installment of the Mission Control Room, Briefing Room, Shuttle Transfer and Spaceship Lab. The proposed site for the Challenger Learning Center will be on the same complex as the Indiana County Technology Center in White Township.
President of the Challenger Learning Center Board Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro thanked those who have helped make the idea a reality in the past. The center board also thanked U.S. Senator Bob Casey for his support in acquiring the funds. He said that he advocated for this funding because improving access to STEM education makes sure that all children are ready to handle any challenges thrown their way.
When it opens, the Challenger Center will serve about 22 counties in Western Pennsylvania.
