42-year-old Daniel Yasick of Elmora, Cambria County, is due in Indiana County Court today for a probation revocation hearing.
Yasick was sentenced in 2013 to six years of probation after three months in jail and six months of house arrest for his guilty plea to a single count of theft for stealing $107,000 from the Clymer-based Church of the Resurrection parish between 2008 and 2011. He was also ordered to pay $85,000 restitution, with the church forgiving the other $22,000 he stole. In a plea bargain, 181 felony counts and eight misdemeanors were not prosecuted.
Yasick was the business manager of the parish, which includes Catholic churches in Clymer, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Heilwood, and Rossiter.
Yasick has two driving-related cases pending, one in Indiana County and one in Cambria County. In November of last year, Cherry Tree police charged him with driving under the influence, illegally operating a vehicle without its ignition interlock, tampering with ignition interlock, and driving an unregistered vehicle. The charge for illegally operating without the interlock device was dropped, but he’s scheduled for formal arraignment on the other offenses on May 28th.
In Cambria County, Yasick is charged for leading police on a 100-mile-per-hour chase on Route 22 in December. After he was pulled over and the officer demanded his papers, he sped away and police eventually broke off their pursuit because of the danger after he almost crashed. They determined who he was and he admitted he had fled because the vehicle he was driving did not have the required ignition interlock device. He’ll be arraigned on a variety of charges in Cambria County next month.
His revocation hearing will be held this morning before Judge William Martin, who will also conduct a revocation hearing for Warren Miller Jr. of Starford, who pleaded guilty in a burglary case last July to receiving stolen property.
