Scary sight for Pirates’ No. 2 prospect Termarr Johnson as he left last night’s game in the sixth inning after taking a pitch to the right hand. Johnson was down for an extended period of time and was heard yelling in pain. He was able to walk off on his own merit, but was replaced after being hit. No update has been given.
MLB Pipeline released its updated farm system rankings for all 30 teams and the Pirates were ranked as the second-best in baseball, falling just behind Baltimore. The Pirates earned the ranking after garnering the first overall pick in this year’s MLB Draft and using it on LSU fireballer Paul Skenes. They also have six players in MLB’s Top 100 prospects rankings.
Skenes is No. 3, followed by Johnson at No. 23. UTIL Endy Rodriguez follows at No. 42, then RHP Jared Jones at No. 74, LHP Anthony Solometo at No. 89, and RHP Quinn Priester at No. 98.
MLB Pipeline also said in its report that the Pirates remain one of the “deeper systems” in baseball with “interesting bona fide prospects.”

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson’s six game suspension was reduced to five games by Major League Baseball on Thursday. The suspension comes after he fought with Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez on a tag play at second August 5th. Anderson accepted responsibility and will start serving the suspension tonight.
