Indiana Borough Council is moving forward with hiring a new full-time parking director.
Last night, council agreed to post a job description for the Parking Department director. Right now, the Parking Department is being overseen by Indiana Borough Police Lieutenant Justin Schawl. Police Chief William Sutton said this is an effort to get Schawl back to his normal police duties.
Chief Sutton also added that while the borough is adding the position, the borough can afford it. At the half-way point of their fiscal year, the borough is seeing some savings so they are using those savings for the new director’s position.
In other business:
The borough council approved eliminating one parking meter and moving two others at the request of Indigo, who is closing their bus stop area at the Indiana Theater building. The meters are being moved and removed to allow buses to pull into three bus stops along the north side of the street. The two meters will be transferred to in front of the Indiana Theater building.
And the council approved an Italian Festival on August 19th from Noon to 8 PM. This will result in road closures in the area of 10th street to the railroad tracks and surrounding areas. The festival is being put together by Bruno’s Restaurant and Nap’s Cucina Mia.
