An IUP faculty member was honored with an award by a national advising organization this past week.
The university reports that Kalani Palmer, a Human Development and Family Science Program faculty member, was awarded for her excellence in academic advising by NACADA, or the National Academic Advising Association, which covers the region of higher education institutions in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It was formed in 1979 and is headquartered at Kansas State University.
According to IUP’s website, Palmer estimates that she has advised more than 300 students since coming to IUP in 2014 and, to Palmer, advising is the most meaningful part of her job.
In order to qualify for this award, Palmer had to gather a personal advising philosophy statement, two letters from former students, a nomination letter from a colleague and a curriculum vita. Serena Haeuser, a former student of Palmer’s, was quoted on the website saying that “she always made students know that she cared for what they have to say.
Palmer will be recognized for this achievement during the regional virtual conference in March.
