T.J. Watt lost out to the Rams’ Aaron Donald for one defensive player of the year award. The Pro Football Writers of America gave the former Pitt star, Donald, the nod over the Steelers’ Watt yesterday. The AP Defensive Player of the Year is scheduled to be announced on the night before the Super Bowl.
The Pro Football Writers named Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers the NFL MVP and Titans running back Derrick Henry the Offensive Player of the Year.
Philip Rivers has announced his retirement. Rivers played for the Los Angeles and San Diego Chargers for 16 seasons and ended his career in Indianapolis. Rivers ranks fifth in NFL history with 63,440 yards passing. The eight-time Pro Bowler also ranks fifth in touchdown passes with 421. His retirement leaves only Ben Roethlisberger as the last remaining active quarterback from the 2004 NFL draft.
Patrick Mahomes is experiencing “no symptoms” from his hit this past weekend that knocked him out of the game against the Cleveland Browns, but remains in the concussion protocol all the same. The Chiefs quarterback participated in a light practice on Wednesday. He is also reportedly dealing with a foot injury.
