There is some news in the slow-moving trial proceedings against Charles Cook, the 64-year-old drifter accused of killing 76-year-old Myrtle McGill at her home along South 6th Street in Indiana in December of 1991.
Cook was tracked down in Minnesota in 2016 and extradited to Indiana County in February of last year. He had evaded capture since being identified as a suspect in 2007 after investigators identified his DNA on a cigarette butt found in McGill’s car, which he’s accused of stealing and later abandoning at the Pittsburgh Greyhound Bus terminal after the shooting.
Attorney Robert Manzi Jr. made an omnibus pretrial motions filing last week and also filed a motion for a subpoena. Judge William Martin has scheduled a motions hearing for May 14th. Cook is charged with criminal homicide and robbery, and is being held without bond at the Indiana County Jail. He’s served time in eight states for a variety of crimes, including burglary, drug dealing, rape, and assault.
