The Homer City council voted on items regarding personnel and property, the borough manager discussed the summer’s paving projects, and the chief of police offered a reminder of upcoming community events at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Borough manager Rob Nymick said bids will open this week for the summer’s paving projects. This year the borough plans to pave Mullen Avenue between North Main Street and Indiana Street, and Greely Street between Church and Wiley. Before paving begins, however, Nymick said about 200 feet of drainage needs installed on Mullen Avenue. That work will begin as soon as possible.
On decisions involving properties, the council approved the consolidation of the properties at 366 South Main Street and 11 Harrison Street. Also approved is the placement of a manufactured home on a non-conforming lot at 63 West Elm Street. The home will replace one that had burned there some years ago.
On actions regarding personnel, the council accepted the resignation of William J. Clement as part-time police officer. Clement served the borough for 11 years.
Also, the board accepted the resignation of Robert Jaworski from the Parks and Recreation board, and are consequently looking for a representative from Homer City borough to fill the remainder of Jaworski’s term. The length of the remaining term was unknown at the time of the meeting.
Police Chief Anthony Jellison reminds the public that the spaghetti dinner benefiting the K-9 Unit is scheduled for Sunday, May 6th, and a Kids’ Safety program is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th. Jellison said the event is not just for borough residents:
“It’s not just for Homer City Borough or Center Township. Blairsville kids, or Indiana, you know, they’re more than welcome to come, too.”
