Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi rolled his team into a second week of training camp yesterday and said the “rust was off” the Panthers for the most part, especially the offense.
Narduzzi also commented on the ongoing conference realignment craze that is striking college sports, which has led to the almost complete teardown of the PAC-12. Despite feeling that ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips is doing a great job, the Panthers coach isn’t crazy about the travel that would result if the conference would take in Stanford, Washington State, Oregon State, and California.
Narduzzi says long road trips take a toll on the body and mind, and he said a football schedule is different than other sports, which would endure even more time traveling. Narduzzi says all of the conference realignment is “money-driven, which is sad.”
NCAA
Georgia is favored to win its third straight NCAA championship in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Top 25 poll. Michigan is second, followed by Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU. Southern Cal is sixth, then Penn State, Florida State, Clemson, and Tennessee to fill out the Top Ten. Pitt is the fifth choice among “others receiving votes”, which would put the Panthers at number thirty.
IUP
IUP opened training camp at Miller Stadium yesterday, and reported “The vibes are good and the work is underway.” IUP kicks off the season on Thursday, August 31st at home against Ashland.
The PSAC will hold its “virtual media day” on Thursday afternoon and will reveal its 2023 football preseason polls for both the East and West divisions.
