Spirit Airlines informed officials at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport on Monday that service is expected to expand in February and March.
Currently, the airport only has flights headed to Orlando, Florida five days out of the week. On February 12th, officials say that the Orlando flights will expand to seven days a week, and they will start runs to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Mondays and Fridays. Sometime in March, the airline will expand flight service again to include daily flights to Myrtle Beach and Fort Lauderdale, Florida and twice weekly flights to Fort Meyers, Florida.
Not only has the airport had to deal with problems related to the Covid-19 pandemic, commercial flight offerings were also reduced due to an $18 million facility improvement project. The project included widening the runway, straightening the aprons, and expanding the passenger hold room to add seats for more than 300 passengers at a time.
Westmoreland County Airport Authority Executive Director Gabe Monzo says that the airport is ready to once again serve passengers and return flights back to the level the airline was scheduling prior to the pandemic.
