The Steelers will turn their attention this week to Friday’s first exhibition game, at Tampa Bay. They practiced without pads yesterday, and will have today off. Coach Mike Tomlin said he wanted to get the team more acclimated to a regular-season routine.
The Steelers released their first depth chart of the season yesterday, and as expected, there are no rookies listed as first-teamers. Top draft pick Broderick Jones is listed as the second team left tackle behind Dan Moore. Second-round pick Joey Porter Jr. is the second team right cornerback behind Patrick Peterson. The other second-round selection, Keeanu Benton, is listed as the third string nose tackle, and fourth-round choice Darnell Washington is the fourth team tight end.
The only position without a clear first teamer is strong safety, where Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal, who are both currently injured, are both listed as first team.
See the depth chart below.
The first team punter on the depth chart is Pressley Harvin III, but he is being pushed at camp by Braden Mann, who like Harvin is a former Ray Guy Award winner as the top college punter in the nation. Tomlin likes watching them compete.
Tomlin listed only one new injury. Safety Tre Norwood had a lower leg issue that is being evaluated. Injured players unable to practice yesterday included Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal, rookies Porter and Nick Herbig. A number of veterans were given the day off.
