State representative Brian Smith has voiced some displeasure over a recent decision by the Biden Administration.
Smith, who represents the northern part of Indiana County and all of Jefferson County, said that he condemns the Administration’s decision to withhold funding for schools that have hunting and archery programs based on its interpretation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was meant to stem mass shootings. In his statement, Smith said that in his district, hunting is a way of life as “Some people depend on game as a food source. Others use hunting trips as an important family bonding opportunity.” He added that using that law to withhold vital funding from schools will not stop mass shootings and that one study he found linked hunter education to a reduction in violent crime.
He also said “The Biden Administration is holding school children hostage in its fight to tear down our Second Amendment rights. There are legal and moral ways to amend the U.S. Constitution, but please, leave our children out of it.”
