The Pirates last night opened a four-game series in Milwaukee with an embarrassing loss. Joe Block recaps the Brewers’ rout.
Game two of the series is tonight. Rookie right-hander Quinn Priester [2-1, 9.19 ERA in his first three starts] starts for the Bucs against Milwaukee’s Colin Rea [5-4, 4.76 ERA]. Airtime on WCCS is 7:45. First pitch at 8:05.) The Pirates have not announced a starter for tomorrow night. That’s Rich Hill’s spot in the rotation, but Hill was traded to San Diego this week.
First baseman Alfonso Rivas was added to the roster last night and went 0-for-3 with a walk while batting leadoff. Rookie second baseman Nick Gonzalez was sent to Indianapolis.
PIRATES MINORS
The remarkable season of Miguel Andujar continues in Indianapolis, but the Pirates don’t seem inclined to call him up, which would require adding him to the 40-man roster. The team removed him from the active roster and outrighted him to Indianapolis on May 23rd. Andujar was 3-for-6 last night and hit his 15th home run while raising his batting average to .365 in a 7-4 win over Gwinnett.
Four Altoona pitchers limited Richmond to just five hits in a 6-0 shutout last night. Sean Sullivan allowed three hits over five innings. Omar Cruz and Cameron Junker handled the next three innings and Tahnaj Thomas threw a perfect ninth for the Curve. Jackson Glenn and Lolo Sanchez each had two hits and a homer, and Tsung-Che Cheng had two hits.
Braxton Ashcraft starts for the Curve tonight.
