The FBI Pittsburgh office yesterday issued a warning for people to watch out for covid-19 vaccine scams.
In a Tweet, the FBI says “If you receive a call, text, email, or even a knock at your door from someone who promises early access to covid-19 vaccine, it may be a scam.” A graphic accompanying the text advises that you can’t pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine.
The FBI says to ask your doctor and seek trusted sources for vaccine information, such as the CDC, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, or a coronavirus scam page at the Federal Trade Commission, at ftc.gov/coronavirus/scams.
Among the resources at the FTC site are warnings about telling the difference between a real contract tracer and a scammer, responding to fake messages from the government, ignoring offers for vaccinations and miracle treatments or cures, being wary of ads for test kits, hanging up on robocalls, watching for emails claiming to be from the CDC or the World Health Organization, and doing your homework when it comes to making donations.
