On Friday, Governor Tom Wolf and State Secretary of Health Dr. Rachael Levine unveiled an updated Covid-19 vaccine roll out plan.
The new plan puts more people in line behind the health workers receiving vaccines now, including those age 75 or older, those with significant health conditions and essential front line workers. The new plan breaks phase one into three sections. Phase 1-A covers all the people now receiving vaccines, including hospital workers, pharmacists, dentists, health care professionals not directly employed by a health care facility, and others. Phase 1-B will include people over the age of 75, people in congregate settings not specified as a long term care facility, first responders, correctional officers, postal workers those who work in a grocery store. Phase 1-C will include people aged 16-64 with high risk conditions, people age 65 to 74, and those who were listed as essential workers that were not included in the prior phases. Phase 2 will cover anyone over the age of 16 and do not have a medical factor that would prevent them from being vaccinated.
Wolf said that much of the process, including how quickly the state receives the vaccines, is out of the state’s control.
Levine stressed once again that the vaccination process will take time and it may be a while before vaccinations will get to those in Phase two.
The department continues to encourage people to continue to follow mitigation measures, including wearing a mask, washing hands regularly, and keeping six feet away from people if you have to go out.
The plan is available online through the Department of Health website, and the department will also accept feedback from the public on the plan.
