A woman who was sentenced to probation for crimes in Indiana and Westmoreland Counties was involved in a chase over the weekend that resulted in injuries for an eight-year-old child.
Police say 30-year-old Amanda Shaw of Arnold led police on the brief chase on Saturday after they went to a home on Leishman Avenue for a reported domestic incident. Shaw was trying to get someone to use an anti-drunk-driving interlock device in her car, then drove away after seeing police. During the chase, Shaw made a sharp left turn onto Dunn Alley, and the child was thrown from the vehicle. Police stopped to care for the child before stopping Shaw at gunpoint near her home on Woodmont Avenue.
In Indiana County, Shaw had been serving four years of probation for guilty pleas to charges of child endangerment, DUI-controlled substance, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license and a summary traffic violation. Those charges were related to an incident in July of 2020. She was also serving five years of probation in Westmoreland County for three counts of DUI for an incident in October of last year.
Bowers now faces charges of child endangerment, aggravated assault of someone under 13 years of age, DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, flight to avoid apprehension, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. She is now in Westmoreland County Jail as she was unable to pay $10,000 bail.
