Pitt opens training camp today at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, with plenty of holes to fill, a new quarterback (again), and a season that begins in a month, on September 2nd against Wofford at Acrisure Stadium.
Former Pine Richland star Phil Jurkovec takes over at quarterback for Pitt after transferring from Boston College to play for his old BC offensive coordinator, Panthers OC Frank Cignetti Jr.
The Panthers must also fill some gaping holes in their roster with the departures of All-American defensive end Calijah Kancey, fellow defensive end Habakkuk Baldonado, ACC rushing leader Izzy Abanikanda, linebacker SirVocea Dennis, tackle Carter Warren, wide receiver Jared Wayne, and safety Brandon Hill.
While the focus is on the upcoming 2023 season, the Panthers continue to look ahead to the Class of ’24, and yesterday coach Pat Narduzzi landed a quarterback recruit, Penn Hills star Julian Dugger. The left-handed 6-3, 200 pound dual threat QB is rated a 3-star prospect and is ranked number forty in Pennsylvania by Rivals.com.
