On a day when Indiana County reported 111 new coronavirus cases, the most cases in one day during the pandemic, the county’s school districts held up reasonably well, with no announced changes to their school schedules.
Indiana Area reported an active case involving a staff member at the Junior High School. That employee was at the school Monday, Tuesday, and for half of Wednesday, so the case will apply to the building’s rolling 14-day count, since students were present in the building. Later in the day, the district was notified that two more individuals had tested positive over the holiday break. Neither of them was in school this week and the cases do not apply to the rolling 14-day count.
Currently, the district most afflicted appears to be Blairsville-Saltsburg. The district has one student case and three employee cases at Blairsville Middle/High School, an employee case at Saltsburg Middle High School, and two cases at Saltsburg Elementary School, involving a student and an employee. The district has 18 students and four employees in quarantine between its four schools.
Blairsville-Saltsburg this week announced a limited return to in-person instruction next week and has not announced any changes to those plans.
