The Penguins opened their brief training camp yesterday with a big announcement: Defenseman John Marino has agreed to a six-year, $26.4 million contract, to take effect after this season.
Marino is entering the second and final year of his entry-level contract, which will pay him $925,000. His new deal will carry a $4.4 million salary cap hit.
On the first day of camp, Marino said the Penguins are ready to go.
Coming off a strong rookie season, the steady defenseman said it’s great to seal the deal with the Penguins.
Marino says the Penguins have a lot to do at camp in a short period of time.
The players did not take to the ice on the first day of camp, but they will be skating today. The season opens next Wednesday, the 13th, at Philadelphia.
