Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has a fully healthy team to work with on the first day of Steelers training camp. All ninety players reported to St. Vincent College, all completed the annual conditioning run, and all will be expected on the practice field this afternoon at 1:55 for the first workout. Tomlin was ready to get to work.
Tomlin says getting to St. Vincent is an important part of building his team for the rigors of the season.
The coach says the expectations for quarterback Kenny Pickett, like any player, especially going into a second year, will be high.
Kenny Pickett says he will make his share of mistakes in only his second year as an NFL quarterback, especially when he takes his shots down the field.
Pickett says he is a bigger, more able athlete this season than he was in his rookie year.
Linebacker TJ Watt says he and fellow outside rusher Alex Highsmith will use St. Vincent to get to know the team’s new inside ‘backers, Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts.
Rookie first round draft choice Broderick Jones took an Uber to St. Vincent. He’s still settling into Pittsburgh and says while that will take time, he has to do his best to earn a job with the Steelers.
The first of three Steelers preseason games is scheduled for August 11th at Tampa Bay.
