The state yesterday announced $60 million in PENNVEST funding for twelve drinking water, wastewater, and water source projects in twelve counties across the commonwealth. A substantial portion of that money is coming to Indiana County.
In a joint news release, Senator Don White and Representative Dave Reed say $11 million has been approved for the Burrell Township Sewer Authority to renovate its sewage treatment plant. Over $3.67 million of the funds will be in the form of a grant, and more than $7.3 million will be a low-interest loan.
Senator White says the project is “another significant investment by the state in the Route 119 corridor between Routes 22 and 422,” that will make the region more attractive for economic development.
Representative Reed says the authority’s plant is seriously out of date and doesn’t meet federal flood control requirements, and the renovations will protect local residents by properly treating sewage while addressing potential flooding issues that could threaten the natural environment.
The state’s announcement yesterday also included projects in neighboring Armstrong and Clearfield counties.
