The state department of Labor and Industry has released the statewide unemployment statistics for June.
The unemployment rate went down two tenths of a percentage point 3.8% during the month of June. This is the lowest rate since unemployment percentage records started being kept in January of 1976. By comparison, the national rate for last month is 3.6%.
The civilian labor workforce, which is the number of residents looking or looking for work, was down by 4000 over the month. Resident employment went up by 10,000 over the month while unemployment went down by 13,000. Total non-farm jobs were up 7300 over the month to a new high of 6,131,900 in the month of June, marking the sixth straight month that jobs hit an all-time high level. Jobs increased in six of the eleven industry super sectors, with the largest gain in professional and business services, which increased by 2800 jobs.
Local unemployment numbers will be released later this month.
