While the average cost of a gallon of gas continues to go up across the United States, gas prices continue to hold steady for the most part across Pennsylvania.
AAA reports that the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the U.S. is $2.25 a gallon, an increase of four cents a gallon from last week, and up 13 cents from last month at this time. It is lower than where it was last year, when gas prices were $2.57 a gallon. The spike is the price of gas is being seen as a result of the tightening supply of gasoline and the rising cost of crude oil.
Pennsylvania’s gas price average remains unchanged over the last seven days, holding steady at $2.52 a gallon. Last month at this time, gas prices were two cents cheaper, while last year at this time, gas prices were 26 cents higher.
Indiana County’s average gas cost is $2.54 a gallon, two cents lower than where it was last week. In our region, the lowest gas price average can be found in Westmoreland County, as its average is $2.39 a gallon. Jefferson County is next lowest in the region at $2.49 a gallon. Both Cambria and Armstrong counties checked in at $2.53 a gallon and Clearfield County has the highest gas price in the region at $2.55 a gallon.
As of this morning, gas prices in Indiana Borough and White Township are at $2.56 and $2.57 a gallon. Gas prices are nearly 10 cents cheaper in Homer City, Blairsville and Burrell Township, with prices hovering around the $2.47 mark. Gas prices in Clymer are at $2.55 a gallon.
