The Penns Manor School Board approved a bond resolution at last night’s meeting.
The bond issue is for $6,995,000 and will be used for an energy savings project district-wide. Superintendent Darren Johnston said the bond will be used for the Guaranteed Energy Savings contract with The McClure Company out of Harrisburg. The contract, which was approved at a special meeting last week, provides for energy conservation measures and replacing old equipment with new equipment, and in so doing, helping the district to save money on their energy costs. Work includes many different projects at the school district complex, including lighting upgrades at the schools and the fitness center, mechanical insulation upgrades at the elementary school, HVAC and Window upgrades at the high school. There are several other projects that are not directly energy-related, and include security upgrades at the schools and the district office, fire alarm upgrades at the high school and replacement of the entry floor of the high school.
Johnston said that over the 20 years of the contract, the project must pay for itself.
In other business, the board approved the superintendent evaluation for Johnston with an overall “proficient” rating performance for the 2017 calendar year. The board also accepted the resignations of longtime elementary teachers Antoinette Beilcheck and JoAnn Martin along with longtime athletic director Michael Riley.
