The White Township Supervisors discussed ongoing plans for this year’s paving projects, and the street light utility rate for Penelec customers has been raised.
Township manager Milt Lady said that the township’s street light utility rate through Penelec has increased over 30% since 2013, but that the township has been covering the cost. However, the township can no longer afford to assume the cost of the increasing rates, and voted at Wednesday night’s meeting to increase the rates for the township’s Penelec customers:
“We’re looking for about a 40% rate increase to cover our cost that we’ve incurred. We’ve been using reserve funds to control that, but at this point we’d have about a $7,500 deficit for this year alone.”
Township Penelec customers can expect the increased rate when the bills are released in May.
In other news, the supervisors are moving along with the paving and seal coating schedule for this year. Lady said twelve streets will be paved for a total of 1.5 miles, at an estimated cost of $264,000. Seal coating will be used on seven roads for a total of 2.5 miles, at an estimated cost of $80,000.
The supervisors are looking to advertise for opening bids in the coming weeks. Bids are expected to be opened in May.
