Two graduates from IUP have made a $40,000 gift to advance the university’s school of osteopathic medicine project.
2005 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Nick Jacobs and Mary Ann Hoysan Jacobs of Windber have donated the money to support the accreditation process for the school. Back in December, the Council of Trustees endorsed the exploration of a possible development of an osteopathic medicine school based on several factors, including that there are not enough trained physicians to provide care to Pennsylvania’s citizens.
Nick Jacobs said in a statement that the country needs physicians and “A unique, rural-based medical school could positively change the state of healthcare in this country.” This gift joins the $1 million gift made by Rich Caruso, the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.
