The priest serving the Kittanning and Rural Valley area Roman Catholic churches has been reassigned to his native Philippines. Father Medil Sacay Aseo has only been with the Greensburg Catholic Diocese since last August, but Pope Francis is sending him home to serve as a bishop. He has been assigned to his home diocese, on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
Father Aseo is the parish priest in Kittanning and Yatesboro. He was assigned to the Greensburg Catholic Diocese’s International Priests Program last year, which customarily entails five years of service, but the Vatican yesterday announced that he will be ordained a bishop and sent home. The ordination date has not yet been set.
Bishop Edward Malesic says Father Aseo’s new assignment is a great honor for the Greensburg Catholic Diocese.
