Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry spoke to the media yesterday for the first time since re-signing with the team. Jarry inked a five-year deal to return to Pittsburgh, and after an injury-filled 2022-23 season, he knows he has a lot to prove to Penguins fans and to new director of hockey operations Kyle Dubas.
Jarry says he had to take some time off to recuperate from the unspecified injuries that cost him a substantial part of last season. He played only 47 games, going 15-5-4 with a 2.78 goals against average and a .917 save percentage before he was injured in the Winter Classic in Boston, then 8-8-2 with a 3.26 goals against average and an .890 save percentage after returning from a lower body injury that was followed by an upper body injury.
Jarry said he had to “adapt” his training to get stronger and fit “in a different way” this off-season in order to avoid injury, and he is healthy now.
Jarry says the Penguins were very disappointed in last season and are determined not to fall short again.
The 28-year-old Jarry says the Penguins were really the only team he wanted to play for, and that was reinforced by the visit Dubas made to his home in Edmonton.
