Former IUP quarterback Mak Sexton has signed to play with Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers, a member of the European League of Football, a 17-team league that debuted in 2021.
While the Panthers never won a championship with the European League of Football, they appeared in four Polish Bowls and claimed one IFAF Europe Championships League title in 2016. This year, though, they were plagued with injuries to several starters, including quarterback Matthew Vitale, who is dealing with health problems.
Sexton transferred to IUP from Pittsburg State in 2022 and led the Crimson Hawks to a PSAC Championship over Shepherd. He went 209-for-330 passing with 2,907 yards and 33 touchdowns, which put him third in program history in single-season touchdown passes.
“I’m very excited to join the Panthers and continue building upon the strong season we have going,” Sexton said in a quote on the team website. “Wroclaw is an amazing city and has a history of winning national championships. I’m looking forward to being a part of a great organization and working to make the Panthers one of the top teams in Europe.”
Sexton originally planned on entering the workforce upon graduating despite having one more year of eligibility.
