The weather this week has gone from wet and heavy snow to high winds, which have played havoc with power lines in and around Indiana County.
Indiana County emergency crews responded to five calls involving electricity yesterday, ranging from lines down to arcing transformers. Penelec is still working on multiple outages that are affecting a small number of their customers in the areas of Indiana, Homer City, Black Lick, Aultman, Shelocta, Alverda, Clymer, Plumville and others, with the outages in each area affecting between one and twenty customers in each area, with the exception of Smicksburg, where the outage is affecting between 21 and 100 customers. There’s no time listed by Penelec for full power restoration, but crews are working on those outages.
REA Energy also had a lot of outages reported yesterday, as the winds damaged the Smithport Substation after 10:00 Wednesday morning. That substation was quickly repaired. Later in the day, though, REA reported that because of the high winds, about 1,750 of their customers were without power, with the majority of them being in Indiana County. Since that time, repairs have been made, and REA is not reporting any outages in our area.
