Indiana Borough Council approved moving funds around in connection with the Community Center Building Project.
The building that houses the Indiana Free Library, the Jimmy Stewart Museum and the Downtown Indiana offices is undergoing renovations, but because expenses on the project continue to increase, borough council member Gerald Smith said that funds need to shift and parts of the project may need to move to other forms of funding. Smith said that they expect a 5% rollback in the project’s scope, but that will be mostly in the cosmetic areas.
In other business, the council approved a job description for a full time Parking Department administrator. This is part of an effort to once again have the parking department separate from the police department, according to police chief William Sutton. In 2009, the parking department merged with the police department, and it’s been taking up manpower and time from the police department, even though under the police’s supervision, the parking department has made some recent improvements, including using a mobile app to help pay for parking, and improvements to the parking garage.
The parking department is currently supervised by Lieutenant Justin Schawl.
