Several defendants will be in district court today for preliminary hearings, and while many of them are for drunk driving cases, one recent case of theft and evading apprehension is on the schedule.
38-year-old Steven Allen Bushaw, Jr. is facing two counts of theft by unlawful taking, and single counts of evading arrest, resisting arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct for an incident on June 28th in White Township and Indiana Borough. State police say that he and another person were being investigated in connection with a string of thefts that included a sledgehammer and a mailbox around 12:24 PM. Police caught up with them at the parking lot of the Dollar General Store in Indiana Borough. Bushaw fled on foot after police discovered he was wanted on a warrant from Armstrong County. Troopers said that he arrested after a brief chase and resisted arrest when he was brought in.
The other man, who has not been named, was accused of driving under the influence. He was later released, but charges are pending the results of blood tests. Bushaw has been in Indiana County Jail as he was unable to post $5,000 bail. He will go before Judge Susanne Steffee at 9:45 this morning.
