A number of defendants are scheduled to be sentenced today in Indiana County Court, including Simere Alford, the Philadelphia man who was convicted in September for attempting to kill two state troopers who were transporting him to SCI Pine Grove last year. Alford’s sentencing was delayed previously due to coronavirus concerns.
On June 24th last year, the 21-year-old Alford broke free of his back-seat restraint, reached into the front seat, and grabbed the gun of the driver, Trooper Jeremy Leasure, firing a shot that missed Leasure’s head. A second shot fired as the two fought for the gun hit Alford in the leg. The vehicle crashed, causing injuries to Leasure and Trooper Allison Goswick, but Alford was eventually subdued. He is already serving 13 to 40 years in prison for the suffocation death of his sister.
Also scheduled to be sentenced today is 37-year-old Adam Lowmaster of Mahaffey, who was convicted in October on charges of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Police were dispatched for a disturbance last December and Lowmaster resisted arrest.
Barry Sheely Jr., 42, of Ernest will be sentenced for aggravated assault, simple assault, and terroristic threats.
Breanna Noel Ribblet, 24, of Gilbertsville, Montgomery County, will be sentenced for possession with intent to deliver in one case, for possession of drug paraphernalia in another, and will plead and be sentenced in a third case in which she is charged with DUI controlled substance and related driving offenses. She will also have two probation revocation hearings.
