The Steelers ruled two key players out for Sunday night’s matchup late yesterday afternoon. The team announced that in addition to missing three key defensive backs, they will also be without cornerback Joe Haden and backup linebacker Robert Spillane. Haden is currently recovering from a concussion and Spillane suffered a knee injury in last week’s matchup against Washington, and it is rumored that he could miss multiple games. In Spillane’s place is newly-acquired back Avery Williamson who the Steelers got in a trade earlier this season from the New York Jets.
Williamson said in a press conference that he is ready to step up when the team needs him most.
The Steelers’ remaining starter at defensive back, T.J. Watt, has full confidence in Williamson’s ability on the field.
Pittsburgh did receive some good news yesterday, as the team reported that center Maurkice Pouncey has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list late yesterday afternoon. Pouncey was placed on the list on Dec. 2nd and should be available for Sunday night’s game. Running back James Conner was activated from the reserve list earlier this week.
Other notable names on the injury report are wide receiver Chase Claypool (illness), kicker Chris Boswell (hip) and defensive lineman Chris Wormsley (illness). All three were full participants in practice on Friday and are scheduled to play against Buffalo this Sunday
