The PITT Panthers football team announced yesterday that despite tallying enough wins for a possible bowl bid, the team has opted out of playing in a bowl game this season.
The team said in a statement on Friday that the decision to decline bowl bids this season was made by the team and was supported by the university. Head coach Pat Narduzzi supported his team’s decision in a separate statement saying how he has never been around a team that faced challenges like this year’s squad and these young men never wavered to rigorous health protocols, lots of COVID testing and mental and physical challenges of playing during a pandemic.
Along with PITT, Boston College also opted to decline bowl invitations this season so players could spend the holiday season with their families.
