On top of the loss, there is some more bad news on the injury front. Andrew McCutchen and Ke’Bryan Hayes were both placed on the 10-day injured list. McCutchen was placed on the list retroactive to July 6th to heal from some inflammation in his right elbow. He may have tweaked that injury Wednesday night when he landed awkwardly after trying to get out of the way of a pitch high and inside that was a close call. Hayes is sidelined with lower back inflammation. He had been out for the same reason from June 24th to July 6th, and played only one game in his return.
On a positive note, the Pirates reinstated Ji Man Choi from the 60-day injured list after he completed a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He had been suffering from an Achilles tendon strain.
