With the holiday season underway, the Pennsylvania State Police continue to emphasize holiday safety as they remind members of the public to stay alert when out shopping.
While in-person shopping is not recommended due to the on-going pandemic, troopers remind those who travel to stores to make sure cars are locked and personal belongings are protected.
On Thursday’s edition of Indiana in the Morning, Trooper Clifford Greenfield spoke on how to keep your car and personal belongings safe while completing last-minute gift shopping.
In addition, state police have teamed up with PennDOT to promote the importance of safe driving and consistent seat belt usage through “Operation Safe Holiday.” This initiative began with the “Click It or Ticket Campaign” on Nov. 16 and ran through Nov. 29, which had troopers ensure passengers are buckled up and children are in child safety seats.
Now, troopers are continuing “Operation Safe Holiday” with the impaired driving campaign which will conduct enforcements with zero tolerance towards drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol. This campaign began on Nov. 25 and will run through New Year’s Day.
PennDOT reported 31 deaths in 1,175 crashes during the same time period in 2019, and they say that these are “100 percent preventable” if drivers use caution while driving this holiday season.
