Last night, the Penns Manor School Board approved increasing the salaries for substitute teachers in the district.
The board approved increasing teacher salaries to $100 a day for day-to-day substitute teachers along with a sliding bonus scale ranging between $15 and $35 depending on when in the school year the teacher would work. Board member Ron Larch said it was an extra incentive for the teacher to come to Penns Manor. He said that getting substitute teachers has been an ongoing struggle and not just in Penns Manor.
The board also approved the pay increase retroactive to August 24 for substitute teachers that qualify.
In other business, the board approved a contract with Redrock Fence Company for $1,540 to repair the elementary basketball court fence that was damaged in a vehicle crash as a car went off Route 553 and went through the fence.
