The suddenly-unstable Steelers are facing a tough Sunday night game against Buffalo, and some of their receivers might be facing extended time watching instead of playing the game after two subpar performances in the last two weeks. Monday’s game against Washington featured seven dropped passes, coming just days after Steelers receivers dropped six-to-eight catchable balls against Baltimore.
Coach Mike Tomlin says he has no tolerance for professional pass-catchers dropping the ball.
Tomlin was also frustrated with the Steelers rushing game, which was non-existent against Washington.
The Steelers’ banged-up defense will have some holes to fill against Buffalo. Linebacker Robert Spillane’s knee injury will keep him out, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported yesterday that it will not require surgery. Cornerback Joe Haden is in concussion protocol. Tomlin said cornerback Steven Nelson will return from a knee injury. On the offense, the coach said he is hopeful that running back James Conner and center Maurkice Pouncey could be back from the reserve/covid-19 list and kicker Chris Boswell may be back after missing the game Monday with a hip injury.
As for the Bills, Tomlin says his defense will need to step up against a talented Buffalo offense led by quarterback Josh Allen.
Buffalo beat the 49ers 34-24 on Monday night. They Bills are 9-3 and lead the AFC East.
