Two counties that border Indiana County are under Air Quality Action Alerts from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, but Indiana County remains in the clear for now.
The DEP put both Armstrong and Westmoreland Counties under a Code Orange Air Quality alert until 4:00 this afternoon as part of an advisory that covers the Pittsburgh region. A Code Orange day means that air pollution in the affected areas will have negative impacts on sensitive populations like those with lung and heart diseases, the very young and the elderly. People in those groups are asked to avoid any exercise or strenuous activity today.
According to AirNow.gov, Indiana County looks to be in good shape today as air pollution levels are expected to only get to the moderate level in our region.
