The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has announced that all in- person events and programs organized by its staff and volunteers have been cancelled for the rest of the year due to Covid-19.
The cancellation will affect 150 events across the state park system, including any DCNR programs at Yellow Creek State Park and Keystone State Park. The cancellation will also affect the traditional First Day Hikes that take place across the state park system. More information on the first day hikes will be released in the future. While the parks will remain open, the visitor center exhibit halls and interpretive areas will also be closed, but restrooms will remain open.
In a news release, DCNR secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said this is being done to limit the social interaction. Those who are visiting the parks for overnight visits from outside the state must have a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of entering the state. If they cannot or choose not to get a test, that person must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Pennsylvania before entering the state park. Pennsylvania residents visiting other states are also reminded that they have to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours of their return to Pennsylvania or quarantine for 14 days upon their return before heading into the state park. Fines between $25 and $300 will be levied if the mandates are not followed.
Visitors are asked to conform with physical distancing and face covering guidelines when visiting the parks.
